President-elect Jair Bolsonaro met on Thursday morning with United States National Security Adviser John Bolton. The American arrived at the residence of Bolsonaro around 7 o'clock.
 Also attending the meeting were the future Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ernesto Araújo; the future head of the Office of Institutional Security (GSI), General Augusto Heleno; and the future Minister of Defense, General Fernando Azevedo e Silva.
 On the side of the United States, besides Bolton, the meeting was attended by the spokesman of the National Security Council, Garrett Marquis; the director of the council for Western Hemisphere affairs, Mauricio Claver-Carone; the director for Brazil, David Schnier; and the charge d'affaires, Bill Popp.
 In the meeting with Bolton were discussed issues such as trade between the two countries, the situation of Venezuela, trade relations with China and security.
 John Bolton himself praised Bolsonaro's election and said that it is a positive sign for Latin America. On the last day, he mentioned the future president of Brazil when he spoke about the future of the region.
 "The recent elections of similar leaders in key countries, including Iván Duque in Colombia and, last weekend, Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil, are positive signs for the future of the region and demonstrate a growing regional commitment to free market principles and open, transparent and accountable governance, "he said at that time.
