UN rejects US resolution condemning Hamas

The resolution drafted by the United States won 87 votes in the UN General Assembly, falling below the two-thirds majority required for its adoption. 57 countries opposed the measure and 33 abstained.
Hamas called the UN's decision "slap" in the administration of US President Donald Trump, "AFP".
"The failure of the United States initiative at the United Nations constitutes a slap in the United States administration and confirmation of the legitimacy of Palestinian resistance," Hamas spokesman Sami Abou Zahri said, using a term commonly used to designate armed groups hostile to Israel.
Israeli ambassador to the UN Danny Danon regretted after the vote that the proposal failed because of a process requiring a two-thirds majority instead of a simple majority.
