The number of asylum claims denied by the United States immigration service has hit a record in the fiscal year 2018, which runs from October 2017 to September 30, 2018.
The information is contained in a report published by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) research center at the University of Syracuse,
Since 2001, when the institute began conducting its research, there was not a high percentage of rejections: 65%. The number of asylum applications was also the highest in the last 18 years.
According to TRAC data, 42,224 cases were tried in the year, representing a growth of 89% over two years ago. The percentage of rejection of the requirements has been increasing since 2012, informs the newspaper "Metrópoles".
