The US recognized Jan Vecchio as the ambassador of Venezuela. Almost immediately, the Venezuelan created an integrated diplomatic team, among others, by Gustavo Marcano, who serves as advisory minister in the US and was mayor of the municipality Diego Bautista Urbaneja, located in Lechería, in the state of Anzoátegui, in eastern Venezuela.
Vecchio, one of the most experienced and representative leaders of the opposition party Popular Will, took different actions to strengthen Guaidó - from a conference to raise funds for Venezuela to meetings with the directors of Citgo, the branch of Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA, in U.S.
The United States was the first country in the world to recognize Guaido as interim president of Venezuela. The politician, who chairs the Venezuelan National Assembly (parliament), called on January 23 articles of the constitution to claim the presidency, because, in his opinion, it is being "usurped" by Maduro.
