Kim Jong-un, a leader of North Korea, was re-elected chairman of the country's top decision-making body at a parliamentary meeting. The team that negotiates with the United States was also named.
The names of the State Affairs Committee were chosen at the opening session of the new Supreme People's Assembly on Thursday (11), the North Korean media reported on Friday (12).
The body was created in June of 2016, when Kim was chosen as president for the first time.
Expectation of renewal was thwarted
Some analysts pointed to the possibility that, after the failure of the Hanoi summit, Kim Jong-un would bet on the renovation of the team.
The North Korean parliamentary session coincided with the summit held in Washington by South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Donald Trump in which they emphasized the need to keep the dialogue alive despite the setback in Hanoi.
